AfterManagers suchReport anPost excellent, controlled performance for 85 minutes of the game at home to Newcastle Emlyn my overriding feeling after the two all draw was disappointment. I was disappointed for the supporters who had turned up to cheer us on again so well, disappointed to see two points thrown away, but more than anything I was disappointed for the players who had controlled the game and given their all right up to that crazy five minutes at the end. They were naturally down about it at full time, but the result should not make them forget just how well they played for most of the game. I could name every one of the starting eleven on Saturday and send some praise their way, but the most pleasing thing for me was the way the team as a whole performed for the majority of the game. We never looked to the absence of Nadin, Mais and Jody Jenkins as an excuse and the attitude of the players was spot on. I must say though how pleased I was with the performance of young Zac Osbourne and Calum Miles who had both fallen out of the starting eleven in recent weeks but both gave great accounts of themselves. It was always going to take a little while with this being my first year, but in my mind now a squad is starting to assemble that can take us forwards. We have used a lot of players in the first 12 games of the season but unless we get injuries I now feel that I am getting to know more about the character of most of our players as well as their attitudes and it will be those who show the desire to take the club up the table and be professional about their football that will be the ones we rely on moving forwards. I am looking forward to facing Bettws this Saturday. The League Cup is always one which I have taken seriously no matter which club I have coached at and I hated it when I was at clubs that rested players for games in this competition. We are in the last 32 of the competition and we have a home tie. If we can get beyond this round, who knows what the draw might throw up for us in the next round,Game butTo weAppear arehere presently four wins from a showpiece Cup Final. Penrhiwceiber have reached the final as a Second Division Team twice in recent years, winning it once, so why not us?I would like to welcome former Garw and Caerleon Goalkeeper Jonathan Chorley to the club. Jon is the older brother of former reserve team goalkeeper Tom Chorley and joins us from Gwent League Club Rogerstone where he started the season. Jon has experience of playing in a good 1st Division Team while at Caerleon and was a thorn in my side at Dinas Powys when I was in caretaker charge there. He also has experience of gaining promotion from this league from his time as a Garw player which will be invaluable. Rhys Nadin's injury has proved to be more serious that had first been thought - although still not anywhere near as bad as it could have been, so we clearly needed to act. Jon has been told that Nadin is our 1st Choice Keeper at present but has shown a great attitude thus far as well as a real desire to sign for us. Soon.....
On the injury Front: - Rhys Nadin is still experiencing some pain in the knee he dislocated at Maesteg. Rhys will seek further advice on the injury this week but he is now certain to be out more than the mid November return date we were originally given. Mark Morris picked up a shin injury against Newcastle Emlyn and currently has a lot of swelling on that area of his leg. He will have a late fitness test on the injury he sustained during the Newcastle Emlyn game.Anthony Southard will also have a late fitness test ahead of the Bettws game due to a claf strain which he sustained early in the week. At present we are hopeful and no more than that that he will be able to play.So as we move into another week the message remains the same to our players as it has been for several weeks now. The work for Saturday's game starts in training in midweek and at present there are about 21 players fighting it out for 16 places. Now more than ever is a time where attitude and commitment will be the deciding factor as to who gets the nod and who doesn't.Gareth Morgan06/11/2009 .
