With so many games in The Welsh League called off last weekend, our game against Cardiff Bay Harlequins ended up becoming one of our games in hand - we had as many as four of them on some teams in the division before kick off! However, I must admit to being disappointed that we didn't return to Croesy with at least a point.

I must say, however, that I thought some of the football played by our opponents on the day was up there with the best I have seen in any Welsh League division. They play at all times with a real desire to pass and move the ball quickly and at times are absolutely gung-ho in their attacking play. Some lesser teams will well and truly be put to the sword on that pitch this season - of that I have little doubt.

Having said that, we had some excellent chances of our own - and on the balance of chances alone it was quite an even match. Both goalkeepers made excellent saves and both teams hit the woodword late on. We even went round the goalkeeper at one point but the angle was too narrow in the soaking wet conditions and the ball went into the side netting. You get games like that and we will play worse than that this season and come away with a win.

The main disappointment for me was the manner in which we conceded the goal. We had a set play in their final third and got caught offside which was disappointing, but then four Croesy players stood remonstrating with the linesman as The Quins broke away downfield and scored a well engineered breakaway goal. I told the players after the game that I had thought that we had left this sort of thing behind and I hope that we will learn the lesson from it and never repeat it. Had we concentrated on what we have worked on a lot since the Summer the breakaway would not have been possible.

We move on now to AFC Porth at home. They are an excellent team and genuine contenders for promotion this season. They play to win at all times and as such I am sure it will be an entertaining game at Woodland Road on Saturday. It is great to be coming into a long run of home games in the league now because our home form has been excellent. We remain unbeaten at home in all competitions and have only conceded two goals in total on our home patch this season. It's the perfect game for us after a setback. A big game, against a big team, at home! I am looking forward to it and knowing the excellent attitude of the players involved last weekend - they will be too!

On the Injury front: -

Michael Brooks injured his hamstring in the early stages of the Cardiff Bay Harlequins game and had to be replaced. Initial indications are not good and it would seem that he may have pulled the muscle completely. At best, Brooks looks set to miss the best part of a month!

Rhys Nadin remains sidelined with his knee injury. We hope to have some good news in the coming week or so on when he will be able to start his rehabilitation. It will be a while yet until he is able to pull on a Croesy shirt which is sad for the lad and for The Club because he made a real impact since signing in the Summer.
